.- .-. - ... / --- -.- (Arts OK) by LIBERTY BATTSON
Mar 23 – Apr 12, 2019

‘Arts OK’ is the title of the show in Morse code. I love how it’s abstract yet a character code that is legible. I would like to as far as possible try to keep the title written in code.

.- .-. - ... / --- -.-  is inspired by statements such as “I don’t get conceptual art”, “it goes right over my head” or “I’m not Artsy”. Battson in her latest show at Everard Read Franschhoek Gallery explores the stereotypical slam on art.   Inspired by Modernism Battsons work is predominantly Abstract, her work fights for its appreciation not only in her direct surroundings but also within the bigger socio political context of SA. Battsons tongue in cheek show breaks down the prejudice. Viewers are encouraged to come see, read the titles and experience the joy of making sense of a well considered conceptual show. Either way, its ok.
