The initial impression one has of Arabella Caccia’s work is that of abstract marks made at random but they are works carefully made and supported on a scaffold of fractal forms to which Caccia is preternaturally sensitive and uses intuitively.
The patterns formed by lichen on rocks, those of foam on water; the helix of a snail shell and the petals of a daisy – they all obey the underlying mathematics and can, once sought, be seen surrounding us everywhere.
Caccia is using fractals as the grammar in the story of her recent work and they provide the key to access her lovely imaginary world.
