Everard Read at Leeu Estates presents a solo exhibition by Paolo Bini: Nuova luce e terra d’Africa (New light and Land of Africa). This exhibition is the result of Paolo’s time at the Everard Read at Leeu Estates Artist Residency programme.  The works were created surrounded by the simultaneously orderly and wild nature of Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands. Here, the studio and home, strategically facing West, allows for the enjoyment of intensely lit Rayleigh scattering sunsets, which inspired the “emotional” colouring of the works on display. The reflection on these sunsets has guided the artist’s interest in finding a “new” light “crossing” the South African landscape. 

Paolo Bini is the first artist of European origin to take part in the Everard Read at Leeu Estates residency.  Nuova luce e terra d’Africa is his fourth solo exhibition in South Africa. He first came to Cape Town in 2013 when, with a scholarship from the Centro Di Sarro’s ARP – Artist Residency Project and the collaboration of the Italian Consulate and SMAC Gallery, he created Paolo Bini. Dinanzi all’Oceano / Brink of the Ocean. He later went on to create Al di là del Quadro / Beyond the Painting at Everard Read Cape Town (2016) and Colourscape at the CIRCA Gallery, Everard Read Johannesburg (2018). His works can be found in several private collections and two public collections in South Africa: The Public Works Collection in Cape Town and The Leeu Collection in Franschhoek.

BIOGRAPHY:
Paolo Bini (Battipaglia, Italy, 1984) has exhibited his works in public and private institutions, including: Fondazione Made in Cloister Napoli (2022), Galleria Peola Simondi Torino (2021 and 2018), Parco Archeologico Paestum (2021), CaMusAC Cassino (2020), ISCP New York (2019), Gallerie d’Italia Milano (2019), Museo Riso Palermo (2018), Museo MADRE Napoli (2017), Reggia di Caserta (2016), Palazzo Reale Milano (2016),​ Casa Ariosto Ferrara (2014), Provenance House Cape Town (2013), CAMeC La Spezia (2012), Museo de Arte Religioso Iglesia de San Francisco de Asís Avana (2010), and Palazzo Bianco Genova (2010). He was the winner of the Premio Cairo 2016 and his works can be found in the following public collections: Museo a cielo aperto di Fiumara d’Arte, Parco Archeologico Paestum, Gallerie d’Italia Milano, MADRE Napoli, Reggia di Caserta, Public Works Collection Cape Town and Leeu Collection Franschhoek. He lives and works in Italy and South Africa.
